The Supreme Court on Tuesday granted one month's time to all provincial governments to carry out legislations pertaining to regularisation of Lady Health Workers' (LHWs) services. A three-member bench headed by Justice Jawad S. Khawaja heard the petition filed by LHWs, who have sought the regularisation of their services. During the course of proceedings, the court directed the provinces to carry out necessary legislations for regularisation of LHWs' services.
Chief Secretary Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KPK) apprised the bench that the provincial government has regularised the LHWs' services; however, it will take some time to structure the LHWs' service rules. Chief Secretary Punjab told the court that Punjab government has prepared a summary for regularisation of LHWs service and approved pension and other benefits; however, at least 15 days are required for structuring LHWs' service rules.
Chief Secretary Sindh informed the bench that the Sindh government has prepared the service structure of LHWs; however, one month is required to change some rules. Chief Secretary Balochistan said the provincial government has completed all the work in this regard and announced a pay-scale of LHWs. The court while adjourning the case, directed the provincial governments to carry out the required legislation work within one month.
