Rejecting the plea of former President General Pervez Musharraf (Retd), an Additional Sessions Judge (ADSJ) here on Saturday summoned him on December 6 in the Abdul Rasheed Ghazi murder case. The ADSJ, Wajid Ali, heard the Abdul Rasheed Ghazi murder case against the former president and ordered that he should appear before the court on the next date of hearing.
During the course of proceedings, Akhtar Shah, the counsel for Musharraf, submitted a new medical report of his client; according to which, doctors have advised the former president not to travel for the next four weeks. He pleaded before the court to grant exemption to Musharraf from court appearance. He told the court that a letter had been written to Inspector General Police (IGP) Islamabad regarding provision of adequate security to his client inside the court premises but no reply had been received. However, Tariq Asad, the plaintiff's lawyer, objected to the defence plea and urged the court to reject it. He also urged the court to quash bail to the accused.
The court directed the IGP Islamabad to submit a reply whether he had received any application from Musharraf regarding the provision of security before he adjourned the proceedings of case till December 6. It is pertinent to mention that the Lal Masjid operation was carried out in Musharraf's tenure in 2007, which ended in a bloody eight-day siege killing at least 58 Pakistani troops and seminary students and the ADSJ Wajid Ali had granted bail to Pervez Musharraf in the Abdul Rasheed Ghazi murder case against two surety bonds of Rs 100, 000 each.
