Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan on Sunday said that personnel of the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) and Military Intelligence (MI) should sit on a commission headed by the Supreme Court to investigate vote rigging in the 2013 general elections, a private TV channel reported. Addressing a large public gathering in Rahim Yar Khan, the PTI chief insisted that 2013 General Elections were not conducted in a free and fair manner.
He said that the government should set up a commission to investigate vote rigging by November 30. "People from MI and the ISI should also sit on the commission," the PTI leader said.
He said the commission should take six weeks to conduct its investigation.
"If the commission gives a decision that rigging did take place, Nawaz Sharif will be required to hand in his resignation," Imran said.
He also said that individuals found guilty of carrying out vote rigging should be put on trial under Article 6 of the Constitution.
Imran said that "if the government falls, then an impartial Election Commission needs to be formed and that all its current members have to resign."
He said that former chief justice Tassaduq Hussain Jilani would be unacceptable as election commissioner because he would not be impartial.
"We struggled a great deal for an independent judiciary, but it is still not impartial," the PTI leader said during his speech.
'I spent spent eight days in jail in Dera Gazi Khan for the independence of the judiciary," he said.
INP adds: Imran has come out with an offer to the Prime Minister to form a Commission under the Supreme Court to investigate rigging in elections and submit a report within four to six weeks. He said during this period Nawaz Sharif could continue to act as Prime Minister while the PTI would continue with its sit-in.
Imran said if elections are held after the Commission report, it should be under a new election commission because his party has no trust in the present four provincial election commissioners and that they should resign.
Predicting early elections in the country, PTI Chief Imran Khan said he would never approach the IMF and the US with a begging bowl.
He said according to Transparency international, if the electricity theft is stopped, its tariff would come down to half. He said that was why he set on fire electricity bills because he did not want to make payment for "thieves".
Imran alleged that because of poor governance, Pakistan Steel Mills (PSM) has closed down after making huge losses while PIA, another major public-sector entity, suffered a Rs 200 billion loss. According to him, "real opposition is emanating from the PTI sit-in, not from Parliament".
