Sui Southern Gas Company Limited (SSGCL) is installing 22 Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) air mix plants in 14 less-developed districts of Balochistan and two in districts of Sindh with an estimated cost of Rs 15.58 billion. This was stated by SSGC Managing Director Shoaib Warsi while briefing the Senate Functional Committee on Less Developed Areas here Monday.
The MD SSCG said that the company has established four LPG air mix plants in less-developed areas of Sindh and Balochistan out of these four plants three are functional in Balochistan, while one is in Sindh. He added that SSGC is going to install another 24 LPG air mix plants of which 22 will be in Balochistan and 2 in Sindh.
In accordance with the directives of MP&NR and GoP, SSGC initiated project activities for gas supply to less-developed areas. The committee recommended the government to increase budgetary allocations for Pakistan Bait-ul-Mal (PBM) so that the organisation can address the problems being faced by the marginalized segment of the society.
The committee meeting held here on Monday with Senator Mohammad Yousaf Badini in the chair was attended by senior officials of the PBM and the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Resources. Briefing the committee Aslam Chaudhry, Deputy Managing Director PBM, said that the entity was engaged in a number of social welfare projects, which included financial help to needy and poor patients, free of cost education to orphans, empowerment of women, sweet homes for senior citizens and National Centers for Rehabilitation of Child Labour (NCRCLs).
He said that a total 158 NCRCLs are functioning in four provinces, Azad Kashmir, Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA) and Gilgit-Baltistan. Aslam added that Pakistan Bait-ul-Mal has established a total 33 sweet homes for the imparting modern education to the orphans, wherein 3,300 children are being provided all the necessities of life with modern education in best private schools. The estimated cost of Rs 15.58 billion will be arranged for project implementation through a soft-term loan under PSDP or from GIDC. Technical evaluation of LPG air mix plants of Awaran is in process and is reaching final stages.
