To improve yield, farmers have been advised to cultivate winter vegetables on time to utilise the existing soil moisture fully. "Farmers of rain-fed areas are advised to sow their Rabi crops during the period October 15 November 15," said met office in its 10-day weather advisory for farmers, ending on November 20.
It warned that late cultivation of wheat may reduce the yield. "Farmers of wheat growing areas are advised to sow their crops in time to get the optimum yield. The best suitable time for wheat cultivation is from November1 to November 20," it added. Farmers of cotton crop areas should prepare their fields for coming Rabi crops and complete sowing on time. Farmers of irrigated plains of Punjab, Sindh and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa are advised to complete sowing of wheat crop before December 15 to get maximum yield, it said.
"In case of late sowing, the recommended varieties should be cultivated to minimise the loss in yield," it said. Mostly cold and dry weather is expected in Punjab. Dry weather is forecast for Sindh. The office said mainly cold and dry weather is expected in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa during the period. However, it said, light rainfall is expected over few parts in the province at end of the period.
Similarly, mainly cold and dry weather is expected in Balochistan. However, light rainfall is expected over few parts of the province including Kalat, Quetta and Zhob during second half of the forecast period. Mainly cold and dry weather is expected in most parts of the Gilgit-Baltistan, however, partly cloudy weather conditions with light rain is expected at one or two places during the second half of the period decade.
