The Pakistan People's Party (PPP) on Monday submitted an adjournment motion in the National Assembly to discuss the issue of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs). The adjournment motion, "relates to appalling state of the Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs), the total neglect by the Federal Government which has led to frustration among them and the resulting police atrocities in Bannu on November 13 that led to the death of 2 innocent citizens, which is condemnable. The commendable action of the Pakistan Army against terrorism in North Waziristan is not being matched with requisite support by the GoP to the vulnerable and displaced citizens".
The motion explained that "as winter sets in the plight of IDPs from North Waziristan is worsening by each passing day. There seems to be little effort by the federal government responsible for FATA to provide rehabilitation and relief, including winter materials, more efficient food assistance, shelter etc".
While condemning the police action against the poor and helpless IDPs which led to the killing of two persons and injury to many others, it said the federal government's apathy and lack of support system to those sacrificing their homes and livelihoods is equally condemnable.
"We consider the matter to be of urgent public importance meriting discussion and response from the concerned authorities in the federal government." PPP Members of National Assembly (MNAs) Dr Nafisa Shah, Ms Shazia Atta Marri, Mir Ejaz Hussain Jakhrani, Dr Azra Fazal and Syed Naveed Qamar submitted the adjournment motion in the National Assembly.
