Advisor on Health Punjab Khawaja Salman Rafiq has said that there is a substantial improvement in dengue situation in the province while dengue larvae reporting has also reduced considerably in Rawalpindi as well. While presiding over a meeting of cabinet committee on dengue here on Monday, he directed concerned departments to continue their efforts for dengue control.
Additional Chief Secretary, Commissioner Lahore, Director General Health Punjab, Additional Director General (Dengue Control), Dean IPH, EDOs Health Lahore and Sheikhupura, District Health Officer Rawalpindi and representatives of Metrological Department, Cantonment Boards and officers of PITB also attended the meeting. Additional Director General (Dengue Control) Dr Islam Zafar while giving a briefing said that there is a considerable improvement in dengue situation in the province and 1,325 confirmed dengue patients have been reported so far whereas there were 2,629 patients last year.
He said that no new dengue case has been reported from Lahore during the last three days while situation in Rawalpindi has also improved and only ten cases have been reported during last 24 hours. He said that there is a substantial decrease in dengue larvae reports in outdoor surveillance in Lahore, Rawalpindi and Sheikhupura whereas it is found in indoor surveillance. The meeting was informed that growth of dengue larvae has reduced due to change in weather. EDOs Health Lahore and Sheikhupura and DOH Rawalpindi gave a report regarding indoor and outdoor dengue surveillance. Dr Islam Zafar told that 1,107 confirmed dengue patients have so far been reported from Rawalpindi, 96 from Lahore and 57 from Sheikhupura whereas 46 dengue patients are under treatment in the hospitals of Lahore and Rawalpindi and are being provided treatment facilities free of charge. Incharge Chief Minister's Dengue Research Cell Prof Wasim Akram said that breeding of dengue mosquito has substantially reduced due to change in weather and mosquito has shifted indoors.
