Taxpayers are still facing serious problems in filing of Income Tax Returns for TY-2014 through "IRIS" System of Federal Board of Revenue (FBR). Tax experts told Business Recorder here on Wednesday that the last date of filing of income tax returns is November 21, 2014, but the newly introduced system of FBR namely "Iris" is not working properly.
Taxpayers faced worst situation of the "Iris" system on Wednesday which is wasting the precious time of the taxpayers and even after spending many hours on the system they are not able to access the system for electronic filing of returns. On the one hand, FBR is insisting to file the returns by 21stNovember 2014 and intimated imposition of penalty on non-filers. On the other hand the taxpayers have reported that they faced serious problems throughout the day when they tried to access the "iris" system for filing of their tax returns.
Practically after feeding the user-id and password, the system sleeps and goes into some internal processing; and for several minutes neither successful login is accomplished nor any message appears for guidance of the taxpayers. If after many tries, the login is successful then the taxpayer has to face second challenge by the system during which his click on a link/item takes him again into indefinite wait state. It is also reported that sometimes, the system automatically throws the user out of the system by displaying the message "internal server error, Please Click here to relogin" and the user has to again provide the user-id and password and has to again follow the complete process. The call center of FBR/PRAL is also of no assistance to the taxpayers, where either all the lines remain busy and if somebody is lucky enough to get connected the call center the operators are of no use.
As a last resort, when the audio/video help of "iris" is tried; its quality is found to be so disappointing one cannot listen to its relevant/entire portion and the audio/video system also hangs-up. The taxpayers are complaining that they could not understand the logic behind the philosophy of PRAL who have decided by themselves to change the system of "e-filing in use since 2007 to "IRIS" without any testing and gauging its capacity to handle heavy load of return. FBR has given extreme liberty and freehand to a private limited company namely PRAL which is doing different experiments with the system. Taxpayers are of the opinion that the matter should be seriously taken up by the Prime Minister and Finance Minister for resolving problems in e-filing of returns.
