Foundry is the second largest sector of our local industry after textile and needs immediate steps for its upgradation to bring it at par with international standards, said Rizwan Ashraf, president of Faisalabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (FCCI).
He was addressing an introductory sitting in connection with the Fifth International Foundry Congress and Exhibition to be held at Lahore on December 2-3, 2014, under the auspices of Pakistan Foundry Association.
He termed metallurgy the mother of the industrial sector and said that Pakistan lags far behind in this sector and "we must make immediate, result-oriented and conscious efforts for its planned and scientific development.
Rizwan Ashraf said that most of spare parts of textile machinery were being cast in local foundries while this sector has also played an important role in the manufacturing of agricultural appliances that helped Pakistan to increase its farm production. However, serious efforts have yet not been made to develop foundries on modern lines in addition to resolving its problems confronted by this energy intensive sector.
The President of FCCI welcomed the organisation of the 5th International Foundry Congress and Exhibition and urged upon the foundry owners and its workers to attend this event to update their knowledge in addition to sharing the success stories of some leading foundries of Pakistan.
Asam Qadri, PFA secretary-general, briefed the participants of the sitting and explained salient features of the international event.
