Stakeholders from public and private sectors at a consultative meeting at the University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences (UVAS) Lahore called on new research in fodder production here on Friday.
Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Talat Naseer Pasha and Dr Noor-ul-Islam Director General Agriculture Research Punjab co-chaired the consultative meeting while Jamshaid Ahmad Farm Manager in Ravi Campus Pattoki, Dr Asif Ali Shah Pioneer Pakistan Seed Company, Muhammad Amin Shakir Assistant Research officer (Fodder) were presents on the occasion. The meeting was organised by the UVAS in collaboration with Punjab Agriculture Research Board.
According to the spokesperson of the UVAS the objective of the meeting is to discuss the problems faced by live stock industry particularly the problem of fodder shortage. The Fodder shortage is the major constraint which is hindering in the productivity of Livestock sector.
According to an estimate Livestock in Pakistan is facing shortage of fodder by 40 Percent and seasonal variation in fodder production also adversely affects the productivity of Livestock. In his opening remarks, Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Talat Pasha said that for the growth of Livestock Meat and Dairy sector we strive hard to make this well organised sector. There is a need of best fodder and the crops for animal nutrition. He called for improving nutrient products on per acre available land.
