Punjab Assembly members in its 11th session here on Friday discussed the annual report 2912-13 of the Parks and Horticulture Authority appreciated the authority and asked the provincial government to establish such in other districts of the province. Legislators stated that establishing the authority in other districts of the province will bring recreation facilities to these areas. The house was chaired by Deputy Speaker Sher Ali Gurchani.
The Deputy Speaker showed his dismay on answers of 'Revenue & Colonies' (Board of Revenue Department) submitted in the house and asked the Parliamentary Secretary to take cognisance of the matter and report to the house within 15 days. MPA Waseem Akhtar asked the chair to tell the authority to take notice of non-presence of secretaries in Punjab Secretariat. They objected that they were hardly available when they visit the premises.
In a resolution by MPA Sh Alauddin he asked the government to take notice of growth of population in the province. The Punjab Assembly member stated that if by this ratio population grows, Punjab would have 350 million people by year 2050. The Parliamentary Secretary answering a query on the issue stated that early age marriage was one of the factors of large increase in population. He said decisions of the Islamic Ideology Council on the issue could help improve the situation. The Parliamentary Secretary said Ulema should also be taken on board on the issue.
MPA Sh Alauddin asked the government to take notice of high fee charged by private educational institutions. He said that these institutions had promised to keep 10 percent quota but not fulfilled their commitment. Lawmaker Khalida Usman stated that in 32 jails of Punjab there were 5,815 death sentence prisoners awaiting penalty. She said during last four years period Rs 670 million had been spent on them. She said no prisoner has been put to death in last four years.
The Punjab Revenue Minister answering queries, said that there were around 385,574 acre government lands in Jhelum. The Revenue Minister stated that in Lahore district there were 274 Patwaris, 25 Gardawar, 7 Tehsildars and 20 Naib Tehsildars. He said in Sargodha District there were 62 Patwaris. To a question the Punjab Revenue Minister said that Rs 20.327 million agricultural tax was collected in Gujranwala during 2011-12. He said this amount was collected under B0117 head. The chair adjourned the house for Monday.
