Consul General of Switzerland Emil Wyss has said that Switzerland considered Pakistan as the priority country for trade. Speaking at a meeting of Site Association of Industry (SAI), he said that economic relations between Pakistan and Switzerland are deep-rooted and many Swiss multinational companies are successfully operating in Pakistan in different sectors.
Pakistan and Switzerland enjoyed close cordial and friendly relations and these relations will be strengthened further with the passage of time. He said that enormous trade potential existed between Pakistan and Switzerland and both the countries enjoyed a better volume in the recent past. He encouraged the business community to enhance exports to Switzerland.
He said that Switzerland has recently joined Schengen Treaty and now Pakistanis, having Schengen visa, could also visit Switzerland. Speaking on the occasion, SAI's Chairman M. Jawed Bilwani drew the consul general's attention towards exports potential in textiles, leather, foodstuff, sports goods and chemical products.
He also asked the Swiss diplomat to ask his government to remove duties on import of textile items from Pakistan so that the Swiss importers could be motivated to import from Pakistan by setting a target of dollar 500 million Swiss imports from Pakistan for the next year which comes to only half per cent of the total imports of Switzerland. He also sought the Swiss consul general's co-operation in getting visas for the member industries on the recommendations of the SAI. He also stressed the need for transferring Swiss technology and vocational training to the local industrial sector.
