The weekly Sensitive Price Indicator (SPI) inflation increased by 0.94 percent during the week ended December 18. The provisional data, released by Pakistan Bureau of Statistics, shows that the SPI for the week under review was recorded at 211.71 points against 209.74 points over the same period of last year. The SPI inflation increased by 0.22 percent this week as compared to the previous week, rising from 211.25 points to 211.71 points.
The weekly SPI has been computed with base 2007-2008=100, covering 17 urban centres and 53 essential items for all income groups. The SPI for the lowest income group up to Rs 8,000 registered an increase of 1.33 percent during the week under review as compared to the same period last year. During the week, average prices of five items registered an increase, while that of 16 registered a decrease. The prices of 32 essential items remained same during the week under review.
The five essential items which registered increase in prices during the week under review included tomatoes, LPG cylinder 11kg, eggs, chicken live and bananas. The 16 items which registered decrease in prices during the week under review included potatoes, onions sugar, pulse Moong washed, rice basmati broken, wheat cooking oil tin, vegetable ghee loose, wheat flour bag, garlic, rice IRRI-6 (Punjab/Sindh), pulse gram washed, pulse Masoor washed, mustard oil, pulse mash washed and vegetable ghee tin.
