Provincial Agriculture Minister Dr Farrukh Javed has said the government was providing electricity to the farmers at a flat rate of Rs 10.35 per unit to facilitate them. Presiding over a joint meeting of Kisan Ithad organisations, Wapda officials and chiefs of power supply companies here on Monday, he said government was giving a subsidy of Rs 22 billion in this regard and this would continue next year as well.
The Punjab Agriculture department will play a vital role of bridging the gap between the agriculture department and the power supply companies. He directed the power distribution authorities not to create any hurdle in providing a connection of electricity to those growers who are current with their payments. The meeting was also attended by Punjab Secretary Agriculture Ali Tahir, AS Wapda Umer Rasool, Lesco Chief Executive Qaiser Zaman, Mapco CEO Muzaffar Ali, Additional Secretary Agriculture Ameer Khattak and other high ranking officers of the agriculture marketing and agriculture department.
