The 7th International Engineering Convention organised by Institution of Engineers Pakistan was held here at local hotel on Tuesday. Former federal minister engineer Mian Shamim Ahmad was the chief guest. President IEP Syed Jamshed Rizvi and General Secretary IEP engineer Sultan Mehmood were present on the occasion.
According to the General Secretary IEP Lahore engineer Amir Zameer Khan said that objective of the convention is to highlight the role of Engineering in meeting the challenges of human importance, which we are facing today. He said that there will be 5 technical sessions and 20 papers read in overall covering important topics of role of Engineering in Economic Development, Water, Power and Energy specially Renewable, Environment and Sustainable Development, Disaster Management and Risk Mitigation and Engineering in Society.
He also said that in the convention there is a gathering of 300 to 350 participants comprising of renowned Engineers, Researchers, Consultants, Contractors and Government Officials including 25 to 30 international participants, renowned scholars and people of valuable professional contribution.
Nationwide all-encompassing consulting engineering houses such as National Engineering Services Pakistan (Pvt) Ltd, Associated Consulting Engineers, Progressive Consultants and National Development Consultants are giving the keynote addresses to describing major projects, problems and prospects.
Selected major industrial bodies such as Izhar Group of Companies, Zamil Steel, Rhino Group, Habib Rafiq, Diamond Industries and Habib Construction have stalls and poster presentations to display the state of the art in Pakistan. The Institution of Engineers Pakistan is a nationwide old and established engineering professional institution founded by our beloved Quaid e Azam and now carrying the voice of over 60,000 of its Members. It is a dedicated non-profit body to serve the cause of the engineering profession, projecting ultimately addressing to the needs of the people.
Zameer said that IEP convention is being organised with the collaborations of American Society of Civil Engineers Philadelphia Chapter, the Institution of Civil Engineers UK Pakistan Chapter, the Pakistan Engineering Council and the Planning and Development Department Monitoring and Evaluation Directorate General.
The American Society of Civil Engineers has increased its role in Pakistan to provide latest professional know how and to bring the young Pakistani engineers at par with the American engineers. They have decided to open a Chapter in Pakistan, and Student Groups at various universities in Pakistan. They are offering training courses in various subjects especially in Disaster Preparedness.
The Federation of the Engineering Institutions of the Asian and Central Asian Countries, and the Federation of the Engineering Institutions of the Islamic Countries are participating in the Convention. Delegations from USA, UK, India, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and Nepal are coming to attend the Convention.
