"The Small and Medium Enterprises Development Authority (Smeda), despite being a lean organisation with scarce resources, is providing commendable services for development of SME sector in Pakistan." Toaha Hussain Bugti, Director Staff, Senior Management Wing of the National Management College (NMC) stated this after taking a briefing from Alamgir Chaudhry, CEO Smeda on functioning and role of the organisation in SME development.
The briefing was arranged at SMEDA HEAD OFFICE for a 15-member delegation comprising participants of the 16th Senior Management Course at NMC. The delegation included the senior officers from Pakistan Administrative Services, Police, Secretariat, Customs, Information, Audit and Accounts, Inland Revenue, Postal Services, Railways, Foreign Service, Ex-Cadre and the Provincial Services. Toaha appreciated the way by which Smeda is towing the government vision of developing SMEs for investment and employment generation in the country.
Earlier, CEO Smeda Alamgir Chaudhry delivered the address of welcome in honour of the delegates and apprised them about role of Smeda in development of SME sector in Pakistan. While giving highlights of Smeda's future targets, CEO specially referred to Smeda's five-year SME development plan and informed that by the end of 2018, the plan would create 10 million new job opportunities with an addition of 0.27 million new SMEs and an increase of US 36 billion dollars in national exports. He further informed that Smeda had been engaged in PSDP projects since the year 2006.
