The Ambassador of the Netherlands, Marcel de Vink, visited Peshawar and met with the Governor of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Sardar Mehtab Ahmad Khan and shared his shock and grief over the December 16 tragedy and expressed his deepest condolences and solidarity with the families of the victims and all affected. He said that the people of Netherlands stand united with the people of Pakistan and that we will never forget. The Governor informed the Ambassador on the steps taken in the aftermath of the tragedy and the progress made.
A wreath was laid at the Army Public School on behalf of the Netherlands in memory of the victims. Ambassador De Vink also met with the DG KP of the Judicial Academy Hayat Ali Shah at his office. It is part of the Rule of Law projects supported by the Netherlands. "Supporting these projects in the rule of law area is more important than ever in the fight against terrorism," said Ambassador de Vink.
The Netherlands government is also supporting the Strengthening Rule of Law programme in Malakand through UNDP, to which US two million dollars had been contributed. Other Rule of Law programmes supported by the Government of the Netherlands are a project by the Devolution Trust for Community Empowerment (US three million dollars) and also partly through the Multi Donor Trust Fund of the World Bank (US five million dollars).-PR
