The death of the journalist Sheikh Saleemullah, the news editor of now defunct Daily Khyber Mail, has been widely mourned. In his tributes to the late senior journalist, Senator Farhatullah Babar, a journalist-turned-technocrat politician said, "The death of Shaikh Saleemullah will be widely mourned, not only in the journalist community of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa but also by countless of his friends, admirers, and well wishers and those who came in contact with him."
Others who paid homage to the late Saleemullah included journalists Shaheen Sehbai, Ismail Dilawar, Mian Abrar, Jehangir Khattak, Aftab Ahmad, Haroon Rashid, Pervez Shaukat, Ghulam Qadri and Zia-ul-Haq.
