The Central Shoora of the Jamaat-e-Islami, while expressing grave concern over the present economic conditions of the country, has called for retrieving the nation's assets lying abroad, and paving way for the Islamic economic system through the policy of self reliance and improvement of the tax recovery system.
A resolution adopted by the Shoora at its meeting held at Mansoora, also stressed the need for eradication of corruption and drastic cut in the unnecessary spending of the state to provide relief to the masses. The JI central consultative body said it was amply clear that the 2013 elections had not brought any positive change in the country and instead, the economic crisis had further deepened. The rulers were happy over the issuance of IMF loan instalments for running the national economy. It said that the production of the country's industry had suffered badly due to loadshedding of electricity and gas and textile mills and other factories were being closed because of fall in the sale price of their products due to which there had been large scale unemployment.
The Shoora noted that the government had not given sufficient relief to the masses after the record fall in the POL prices in the world market. Instead, it had raised the GST and surcharge by five per cent only to increase its earning. Through a resolution on education, the JI Shoora called for framing a permanent education in the country in harmony with the country's ideology, the national requirements and the dictates of the modern era. It demanded that the necessary steps under Article 31 of the Constitution be adopted for the Islamisation of education and the Education Act 1976 be made a part of the education policy as it prohibited the induction of anti Islam material in the text books and courses of study.
The resolution demanded that the preparation of the study courses be given back to the federal government with the approval of the provinces. It also called for special campaign to achieve hundred per cent literacy. The Shoora called for the reversal of the compulsory English medium and co-education system in the Punjab besides the cancellation of the posting of male teachers in female educational institutions.
The Shoora demanded establishment of separate colleges and universities for the women to provide them a better and free atmosphere. In a resolution relating to the workers problems and privatisation, the Shoora called upon the government to give up the privatisation of state owned units under the IMF pressure because it would further add to the unemployment. The Shoora called for holding a tripartite conference to find the proper solution of the problems facing these industrial units. It demanded that the hurdles in the payment of educational scholarships from the Workers Welfare Fund be removed and the death and marriage grants out of the funds so far held up be cleared. It also demanded raising the pension out of the EOBI from July 2013 to Rs six thousand. The Shoora also termed the basic pay scales of the government employees from one to twenty two as unjust and imbalanced and stressed for their rationalisation.
