Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Thursday summoned Registrar of Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC) for not complying with the court order regarding registration of medical graduates of Shifa College of Medicine (SCM). A single-member bench headed by Athar Minallah resumed hearing of a civil miscellaneous petition filed by the medical graduates of Shifa College of Medicine against registrar of PMDC for not complying with the court order in which the court issued direction to the PMDC to register all cases pending before the PMDC for three months.
During the course of proceeding, the bench directed the registrar of PMDC to appear in-person before the court to explain why the PMDC has not complied with the court orders. The court further directed that all registration cases of Shifa College of Medicines' graduates pending before the PMDC for three months must be resolved.
Advocate Raja Saim-ul-Haq Satti, counsel for the students, argued that on one hand the low category medical colleges' graduates were being registered by the PMDC due to which strength of quack medical practitioners are increasing, while on the other the PMDC adopts delaying tactics in the registration of graduates of Shifa College of Medicine.
He maintained that Shifa College of Medicine was an allied institution of Shifa Tameer-e-Millat University (STMU), which was approved by the Parliament in March 06, 2012. He prayed the court to direct the PMDC to pay damages to the graduates, who are still not registered by the PMDC and are unable to perform house job. Later, the court adjourned proceeding of the matter till today (Friday).
