The Lahore High Court Rawalpindi Bench on Tuesday dismissed appeals of six terrorists and upheld the sentence of two times life imprisonment and fine of Rs 200,000 to each terrorist. According to the Prosecution Department spokesman, the terrorists were arrested with three vehicles loaded with explosive material at a CNG station of Sadiqabad in Rawalpindi on June 6, 2008.
The Anti-Terrorist Court-II, Rawalpindi, had awarded the sentences to the accused. The accused had filed an appeal in the Lahore High Court against the decision of the Anti-Terrorist Court-II which was dismissed on Tuesday. The LHC Bench comprising Justice Syed Iftikhar Hussain Shah and Justice Zulqarnain Saleem while announcing the decision upheld two times life imprisonment and fine of Rs 200,000 each to accused Intikhab Ahmed Abbasi, Abid Khan, Muhammad Ishaq, Muhammad Kabir, Qamar Zaman and Zafar Ali under sections 302 and 7 of the ATA. Deputy Prosecutor General Muhammad Usman and standing counsel Raja Faisal represented the state in the case.
Meanwhile, Ms Bushra Rehman, Judge of the Anti-Terrorist Court-II Gujranwala has awarded two times death sentence to Muzammil Hussain and two times life imprisonment to Muhammad Umair, terrorists of proscribed organisation, in murdering Khalifa Rehmat Ali. The court has also imposed fine of Rs 400,000 each to both terrorists. According to details, both the accused belonged to a defunct organisation and were involved in terrorist activities. A case of the attack on two Imambarghs of Gujranwala by accused Muhammad Umair is also under hearing in this court. Deputy Prosecutor General Nasir Ali represented the state in the case.
