The National Assembly's Standing Committee on Government Assurances met on Thursday in Parliament House, Islamabad under the Chairmanship of Muhammad Afzal Khokhar, MNA to consider the following agenda: To discuss the assurance given by Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan, Minister for Interior on the floor of the House on 15th August, 2013 in response to a supplementary question asked by Ali Muhammad Khan, MNA whereof the Minister had assured that a proactive major operation will be launched against mafias and vested interest working in and around passport offices.
To discuss the assurance given by Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan, Minister for Interior on the floor of the House on 15th August, 2013 in response to a supplementary question asked by Sher Akbar Khan, MNA whereof the minister had assured that backlog of passports will be cleared in foreign missions/consulates particularly that of Malaysia. To discuss the assurance given by Lieutenant General Abdul Qadir Baloch (Retd), Minister for States and Frontier Regions on the floor of the House on 16th August, 2013 in reply to a supplementary question raised by Sheikh Salahuddin, MNA whereof the Minister had assured that registration of illegal refugees living in the suburb of Karachi would be carried out so that planning can be made for their repatriation.
The Director General (Project), NADRA with reference to agenda item regarding registration of illegal refugees living in the suburb of Karachi, briefed that Pakistan hosting 1.6 million registered in addition to an equal number of un-documented Afghan citizens living inside Pakistan. Keeping in view the presence of 1.6 million registered Afghan refugees in Pakistan, the Ministry of SAFRON formulated the Afghan National Policy for Management and Repatriation of Afghan Refugees which presented to the Cabinet. The Cabinet in its meeting held on July 25, 2013, extended the validity of Tripartite Agreement on repatriation till December 31, 2015 by mid-year Government of Pakistan in collaboration with Government of Afghanistan and UNHCR will spell out the future course of action regarding the repatriation and sustainable reintegration o returning refugees inside Afghanistan. MNAs Ms Shahzadi Umerzadi Tiwana, Syed Sajid Mehdi and Moulana Muhammad Khan Sherani attended the meeting in which Mover Sher Akbar Khan, MMA and Minister for Parliamentary Affairs, ex-officio Member were also present in the meeting.-PR
