Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif has approved the first phase of reforms in motor vehicles system under which payment system of token tax has been changed. The dealers' vehicles registration system (DVR System) has been introduced for registration of new vehicles and motorcycles. Under dealers' vehicles registration system, registration and number plate will be issued by the dealer and a vigilance cell will be set up in Excise and Taxation Department.
The Chief Minister said the programme of introducing reforms in motor vehicles system will prove to be of far-reaching results and modern technology will be helpful in improving the system. With the change of token tax system, special stickers will be issued to the vehicles on payment of token tax and the facility of ATM and online will be provided for payment of token tax.
He said that ownership number plate will be issued to the owner of the vehicle and number plate will also be changed on the change of ownership of the vehicle. The chief minister said that necessary amendments will be made in the law regarding reforms in motor vehicles system. He directed to constitute a committee for implementation on the steps of first phase of reforms and said that final recommendations should be submitted within 14 days for introducing reforms in the second phase.
Provincial Minister for Women Development Hameeda Waheed-ud-Din, Special Assistant Rana Maqbool Ahmed, Women Members Provincial Assembly Kiran Dar, Farhana Afzal, Dr Aaliya Aftab, Rashida Yaqoob, Uzma Qadri, Inspector General Police, Secretaries and senior officials concerned attended the meeting through video link. Salman Sufi of Special Monitoring Unit gave a briefing with regard to reforms in motor vehicles system and eradication of violence against women. The Chief Minister said that half of the population of the country comprised women and protection of their rights is responsibility of the state.
