The Karachi Port handled 69,743 tonnes of cargo comprising 55,095 tonnes of import cargo and 14,648 tonnes of export cargo including 2,176 loaded and empty containers during the last 24 hours ending at 0700 hours on Wednesday. The total import cargo of 55,095 tonnes comprised of 12,765 tonnes of containerised cargo; 21,647 tonnes of general cargo; 6,235 tonnes of bulk cargo: 3,710 tonnes of soyabean meal; 2,525 tonnes of palm kernel and 14,448 tonnes of oil/liquid cargo.
The total export cargo of 14,648 tonnes comprised of 12,244 tonnes of containerised cargo; 370 tonnes of general cargo; 1,834 tonnes of cement and 200 tonnes of oil/liquid cargo. As many as 2,176 containers comprising of 1,153 containers import and 1,023 containers export were handled during the last 24 hours on Wednesday.
The break-up of imported containers shows 256 of 20's and 302 of 40's loaded while 39 of 20's and 127 of 40's empty containers, whereas that of exported containers shows 338 of 20's and 272 of 40's loaded containers while 89 of 20's and 26 of 40's empty containers were handled during the business hours.
There were seven ships namely KMTC Mumbai, Posen, BW Yangtze, Chao Hu, Cevdet-A, Violet-1 and Truong Minh Star carrying containers, oil tankers and fertilizer respectively sailed out to sea during the reported period. There were five vessels viz. ER Helgoland, Wan Hai-172, Al Mahboobah, Violet-1 and Western Panama carrying containers, oil tankers and general cargo respectively currently at the berths.
There were two ships namely Vinh An and Western Panama carrying seeds and general cargo respectively sailed out to sea on Wednesday, while three ships namely ER Helgoland, Narodny Bridge and Sea Merchant carrying containers, oil tanker and cement respectively are expected to sail on Thursday.
There were two vessels viz. PAC Aries and RHL Felicitas carrying containers respectively due to arrive on Wednesday, while nine vessels viz. APL Seattle, Nagoya Tower, YM Portland, Captain Costas, Kota Hapas, CSC Brave, Stalingrad, ER Bilbao and Peaceful Seas carrying containers, oil tanker, molasses, coal and steel respectively are due to arrive on Thursday.
The total export cargo of 20,052 tonnes includes 5,878 tonnes of rice and 14,174 tonnes of containerised cargo. As many as 2,516 containers comprising of 1,770 containers import and 746 containers export were handled during the last 24 hours on Wednesday. There was one ship namely CV Sealand Michigan with containers sailed out sea on Wednesday morning.
A total number of four vessels viz. CV Sealand Michigan, MV Aesenaz-S, MV Rich Sino and MT Lahore currently occupied berths to load/offload containers, rice, palm oil and furnace oil respectively during the last 24 hours. There is one ship namely Tan Binh-22 carrying palm oil at the outer anchorage of Port Qasim on Wednesday. There were two vessels viz. CV Maersk Columbus and CV Sydney carrying containers respectively expected to take berths at Qasim International Containers Terminal on Wednesday. There are no ships due to arrive on Wednesday.
