Ban on gas connections: possession of over 25,000 housing units impeded: ABAD

Chairman Association of Builders and Developers (ABAD) Junaid Ashraf Taloo has said the ban imposed on gas connections has hampered the possession to the people of more than 25000 housing units. While addressing a press conference at Karachi Press Club, he said that this has resulted in loss of more than 200 billion rupees to builders and public who have booked flats in these projects.
Taloo said the federal government has imposed a temporary ban on October 04, 2011 according to which SSGC stopped providing gas connections to high rise buildings. The four-year old ban has very drastically affected the construction industry as lack of gas connections has stopped the construction companies to hand over the possession of the relevant housing units to their allottees.
Vice Chairman ABAD Mohammad Hanif Memon said due to unavailability of gas connections over 250000 individuals are affected. Riawan Adhia, Convenor SSGC sub-committee said a summary moved by SSGC is lying at Prime Minister House for last six months. He urged the Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif to sign the summary without any further delay so that affecttees who are homeless should be given possession. The removal of ban will result in increased construction activities thus providing job opportunities as well as revenue generation for the government, he added.
