The Taiwan Flour Millers' Association has purchased 83,950 tonnes of milling wheat to be sourced from the United States in a tender for the same volume which closed on Wednesday, European traders said. The wheat had been sought in two consignments for April and May shipment.
The purchase for the first consignment for shipment between April 28 and May 12 comprised 9,550 tonnes of dark northern spring wheat of 14 percent protein content bought from Cargill at $324.19 a tonne fob, 15,500 tonnes of northern spring wheat of 14 percent protein bought from Cargill at $306.49 a tonne fob and 12,600 tonnes of hard red winter wheat of 13 percent protein content bought from Columbia Grain at $261.28 a tonne fob, traders said.
The first consignment has an additional charge of $25.18 per tonne for ocean shipping from the US Pacific north-west coast to Taiwan, they said. The second consignment for shipment between May 15-29 comprised 19,650 tonnes of northern spring wheat of 14 percent protein content bought from Cargill at $306.49 a tonne fob, 13,750 tonnes of hard red winter of 13 percent protein content bought from Columbia Grain at $261.28 a tonne fob and 12,900 tonnes of soft white wheat of 10.5 percent protein bought from Cargill at $274.99 a tonne fob, traders said.
