Ambassador of Tajikistan, Sherali S Janonov, has said that Tajik President is expected to visit Pakistan later this year. He said that Pakistani businessmen should exploit Tajik market, as there still existed a great trade opportunities despite capture of major chunk of the Central Asian States (CAS) market by Chinese and Indian manufacturers.
In a meeting with the office-bearers of Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI) on Thursday, he emphasised the need of taking effective steps to promote Pakistani products and services in Tajikistan.
He said that the FPCCI members from textile sector would be invited to explore business opportunities in Tajikistan's tax-free industrial zones.
The Tajik envoy said that his government had already written to the Commerce Minister for forming a joint business council but response in this regard was awaited.
He said that China and India were engaged in boosting their trade in Tajikistan by holding fairs and promotional events and China had so far organised five to six exhibitions within a year while Pakistan had organised only a single fair about 11 years back.
Speaking on the occasion, Tajikistan's Consul General, Irshad Kassim said that he had arranged a 120-member team to Dushanbe in 2012 and a similar delegation could also be arranged this year with the co-ordination of FPCCI.
He advised the Pakistani stakeholders to change their stance of looking towards West and instead should be looking to East.
FPCCI President Mian Muhammad Adrees announced that the chamber would form a Joint Business Council of the two countries, while a trade delegation would also visit Dushanbe this year.
He said that the people of Tajikistan and Pakistan had very strong brotherly relations.
He further said that as a first step Pak-Tajikistan Business Council would be formed and then all issues would be taken up through this forum in order to jack up bilateral trade between the two countries.
Honorary Consul General of Tajikistan, Irshad Kassim; Vice-President FPCCI, Shahnawaz Ishtiaq; Ishtiaq Baig; Sami Khan; President, Korangi Association of Trade and Industry, Rashid Siddiqui, and a number of other business representatives also attended the meeting.
