Jamaat-i-Islami (JI) chief Sirajul Haq said on Saturday that the just proposed judicial commission should also revisit the results of the 2013 general elections of Karachi to write off the existing 'fake' political mandate.
"There is a need of revisiting the poll results in Karachi to cancel the fake political mandate as it was selection and not election," he told newsmen at Idarae Noor-e-Haq, saying that "like another constituencies' polls should again be held in Karachi to let people elect their representatives".
He said the judicial commission should look into the complaints lodged against polls rigging across the provincial metropolis Karachi, saying that the citizens had been deprived of their political representation with a 'fake' mandate.
He also asked the federal government to continue the targeted operation in the city of Karachi on a permanent basis and not temporarily with a wider and holistic approach to clean up the metropolis from all anti-social and economic forces at once.
"If you [federal government] want peace in Pakistan then Karachi has to be made peaceful and the central government should step up to build the city," he demanded, saying that the federal government should invest Rs500 billion on the development to change the city's outlook on modern lines.
He said the people of the Karachi city were faced with scores of problems, including non-availability of public transport, poor sanitation, unhygienic potable water, insufficient healthcare facilities and outdated education system, besides a wrecked infrastructure.
"Prosperous and peaceful Karachi will ensure a developed Pakistan," he asserted and asked the government to put a clear and permanent plan to the public as to how it would undertake uplift of the metropolis and restoring peace. "Unless these problems are addressed, the citizens will not enjoy peace," he said.
On a peace Jirga formation, he offered his party's services to bring the 'angry' Baloch back from caves to mainstream affairs of the country. He blamed Islamabad for the unrest in the most backward province of the country with its biased policies.
"The Baloch nation is not against Pakistan," he told journalists that "the Baloch youth is in protest in caves against injustices from the policies of Islamabad. Handing over of keys of the governor house or chief minister house will not solve the problems, rather handing over of resources to the Baloch".
He asked Islamabad to correct its policies towards Balochistan to make things easy for the Baloch nation and the country as well. "People are lacking potable water, healthcare facilities and education, which are the basic needs," he slammed the government, saying that the Balochistan issues were difficult but not unsolvable.
Sirajul Haq announced the establishment of youth centre at Idarae Noor-e-Haq - a central office of the JI in Karachi - to help jobless youngsters find employment. The proposed centre will also provide the youth with career guidance and education advices, he said and asked his party workers to play their role for social development.
"The centre will give advices to jobless youth, advices on education and sports careers," he said, adding that the centre would work as a volunteer organisation to offer its services on different fields to help the youth shape up their talent.
