The water inflow in four live rivers has risen to 3,30, 000 cusecs after ongoing widespread rains in upcountry which have also delayed harvesting of Kharif crops and damaged ripe grams, lentils and tomato crops.
According to 30th March rivers flows and reservoirs level report of Water and Power Development Authority, 1,03,000 cusecs water is flowing in the River Jhelum at Mangla dam, 1.48,500 cusecs in river Chanab at Marala near Sialkot, 52,600 cusecs in the River Kabul at Nowshera and 28,900 cusecs in the mighty Indus at Tarbela. This is the highest flow in the rivers Jhelum and Kabul on 30th March in a decade.
The Indus River System Authority(Irsa) is retaining 88,000 cusecs water in the Mangla dam and 16,000 cusecs in the Tarbela dam and discharging rest of the flow into the countrywide irrigation canal network for sowing the Kharif crops in four provinces.
The Meteorological department has already warned that the heavy downpours may generate flash flooding in the local ravines of Upper KP (Malakand, Hazara, Mardan, Peshawar divisions) and there was high probability of landslides in the vulnerable areas of Upper KP (Malakand, Hazara divisions),Gilgit-Baltistan and Kashmir during the period.
Meanwhile scattered rain-thunderstorm associated with gusty winds occurred in Upper Punjab, Upper KP, Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan. Weather remained dry in other parts of the country during past 24 hours.
Weather forecast for today:
Mainly dry weather is expected in most plain areas of the country. However rain thundershower is expected at isolated places in Islamabad, Upper Punjab (Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Lahore, Sargodha divisions), Upper KP (Malakand, Hazara, Peshawar, Mardan, Kohat divisions), Upper FATA, Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan.
Rainfall: Sialkot (City 89, AP 23), Lahore (PBO 47, AP 32), Gujranwala 21, Parachinar 06, Gujrat, Bunji 03, Garhi Dupatta, Noorpur Thal, M B Din, Kakul, Malam Jabba, Drosh 02, Murree, Joharabad, Astore and Mirkhani 01.
