Competing with Apple Watch, Samsung might be working on a gadget that can take better health measurements than its rival, as pointed out in its recent patent.

Samsung, back in 2016, filed for a patent with the US Patent & Trademark Office (USPTO) showing that the company would use lasers for measuring heart rate, blood pressure and other health signs. However, the there was no further news later about it.

After two years, the company filed a new trademark filing ‘Samsung Speckle’ in Europe suggesting that it might continue work on the ‘laser speckle interferometric system’ as described earlier, reported Business Insider.

Though the trademark filing did not reveal many details, the device can be useful in many applications, as pointed out in the trademark. The goods and services where this device might prove to be useful include computers of almost all types (tablets, portable computers, monitors, convertible PCs), computer peripherals (data storage devices, headsets, keyboards, mouse, wireless speakers), leather computer case, protective covers, VR apparatus and such.

Moreover, where the current Apple Watch makes use of LED lights for measuring heart rate, if Samsung’s new sensor-equipped gadget comes to reality, it might throw a challenge for Apple. Also, Samsung is rumored to release its new smartphone named ‘Samsung Galaxy Watch’, as per Android Central.

Samsung, however, didn’t respond to a request for further details, according to Business Insider.
