Gulf States' requirements: Shahbaz constitutes body to prepare skilled workforce

Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif has constituted a steering committee headed by the Punjab Minister for Labour for formulating recommendations for preparing the skilled workforce. "There is a big demand for skilled manpower in Gulf countries and hundreds of thousands of trained workers can be sent from Punjab to Gulf States during next few years."
Speaking at a high level meeting, Shahbaz said that millions of skilled workers were required in Gulf countries for the Football World Cup in Qatar and Dubai Expo. There is a need for paying special attention to imparting quality training to skilled workforce by departments concerned and such courses should be arranged for the youth as their demand in these countries.
The Chief Minister directed that the skilled workforce be developed keeping in view the market needs, departments concerned should contact foreign embassies to acquire information about genuine demands for skilled workers and devise a future strategy in this regard. Due attention should be paid to preparing the skilled manpower in order to meet local needs as well as that of foreign countries.
The meeting reviewed in details the proposals for sending skilled workers to Gulf countries from Pakistan, especially Punjab.
Punjab Minister for Labour Raja Ashfaq Sarwar, Punjab Assembly members, Saira Iftikhar, Sardar Ramesh Singh Arora, secretaries of Finance, Planning & Development and Labour departments, Chairman of TEVTA, Chairman of PVTC and concerned officers were present.
