Chief Minister Punjab Shahbaz Sharif has announced that his government is making all-out efforts to establish a state-of-the-art Pakistan Kidney and Liver Institute and Research Centre in Lahore soon. Punjab government has already allocated a 50-acre land for this institute, he added.
He stated this during a review meeting here on Monday. The meeting was also attended by Advisor on Health Khwaja Salman Rafiq, health and higher education secretaries, Lahore district coordination officer and members of the Board of Governors of Pakistan Kidney and Liver Institute and Research Centre.
President of BoGs told the meeting that the project is expected to be completed soon and it would be a milestone in the public health sector.
"Modern treatment facilities will be available to kidney and liver patients under one roof while poor and destitute patients will be provided free treatment," he added.
The CM said autonomous BoGs had already been set up to run the institute while professional staff would be recruited which would then be sent abroad for training. "A nursing school will also be set up at the institute," he added.
He told concerned officials that all necessary measures should be taken for the project completion.
"The provision of modern treatment facilities to the masses is the priority of the government and billions of rupees are being spent on development projects in this sector. Revolutionary reforms are being introduced in health sector while special attention is being paid to the improvement of treatment facilities in hospitals. New hospitals equipped with modern health facilities are being set up throughout the province," he added.
