Irfan Iqbal Sheikh was unanimously elected as Chairman of the Pakistan Industrial and Traders Associations Front (PITAF) for two years. Tanveer Ahmed Sufi and Khawaja Shahzeb were elected as senior vice chairman and as vice chairman respectively. After the election, the newly elected chairman told Front members about his priorities and vowed to strengthen liaison with the government departments and that he would give maximise time for industry to resolve the issues. He also thanked the Front's Supreme Council for reposing confidence in him to lead the executive committee members.
Chairman Sheikh, who is also the active EC member of the Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry, said the government would have to help the private sector to enhance productivity that had nose-dived to the lowest ebb because of unavailability of electricity and gas.
In his speech, Senior Vice Chairman Tanveer Ahmed Sufi vowed to work hard for the betterment of the members and promote the association to new heights and thanked the outgoing office-bearers for their devotion and support to the Chamber.
Khawaja Shazeb Akram vowed to continue the efforts for the rights of the value-added sector and an effective pursuance for the GSP Plus by the EU for which Pakistan has become eligible from January 2014.
Outgoing Chairman Tahir Javed Malik also thanked the office-holders and the Front leadership for extending him full support during his tenure.
Grinding Mills Association President Chaudhry Iftikhar Bashir congratulated the newly elected office-bearers saying he hoped the newly elected people would play their role in resolving the energy issue.
Front Supreme Council Chief Mian Anjum Nisar, Senior Chamber Vice President and Vice President Mian Nauman Kabir and Mahmood Ghaznavi and former Chamber presidents Mian Shafqat, Muhammad Ali Mian and Zafar Iqbal Chaudhry were present on the occasion.
