The alleged mastermind of Mumbai attack case has submitted an application before the anti-terrorism court (ATC) to seek exemption from attending trial proceedings due to security threats. ATC is scheduled to resume Zakiur Rehman Lakhvi's trial in the Mumbai attack case on Wednesday. ATC Judge Sohail Ikram on Monday issued a notice to the federal investigation agency (FIA) on Lakhvi's application to respond by May 6.
Lakhvi was in Adiala jail since February 2009 and he (Lakhvi) was released last month. Advocate Raja Rizwan Abbasi, Lakhvi's counsel, argued that his client was facing death threats and contended that Lakhvi was in a high security cell while in Adiala jail as the law enforcement agency knew that he may be targeted.
