Industrialists, manufacturers, spinners and traders of South Punjab have welcomed the commissioning of first-ever 100 Megawatt solar power plant that would help in saving of huge foreign exchange. Mian Iqbal Hassan, President of Multan Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MCCI), said the initiative of utilising the indigenous resources like sun and wind should be continued to overcome ongoing energy crisis and reduce dependence on imported fuel.
MCCI president appealed to the domestic users to utilise solar means of power generation at their residences to reduce load on national grid and ensure availability of electricity for trade and industry sector. Appreciating the Government for timely completion of first-ever solar power plant in Bahawalpur, Mian Iqbal Hassan President of MCCI said the government should also expedite work on hydropower projects so that the masses could get cheap electricity.
He further said that generation capacity of solar power plant must be increased to 1000MW as planned by the government. The project is expected to start generating 1,000MW by the end of 2016. The project comprises 400,000 solar panels and it would turn it into the largest photovoltaic power station.
