Former Speaker National Assembly and PPP MNA Dr Fehmida Mirza on Wednesday threatened to go to people's court against the registration of 'fake' FIRs against her husband, Dr Zulfiqar Ali Mirza. Addressing a press conference in Badin, Mirza said that court orders were being openly violated. Heavy presence of police at the entrance of Mirza House in Badin amounts to contempt of court, she said, adding that her husband had already secured protective bail.
"Despite being a former NA speaker, I arrived here without any security escort at 4:00 am. However, despite protective bail, police vehicles were present at every post," she said. She said that at first a single FIR was lodged against Zulfiqar Mirza, but now the number had increased to seven. She appealed to Chief Justice of Pakistan, Chief Justice Sindh High Court, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, Chief Minister Sindh Syed Qaim Ali Shah and the Pakistan People's Party (PPP) senior leadership to take notice of the fake FIRs and withdraw them at the earliest.
"We are part of PPP. It is my family and I cannot harm it," said Dr Fehmida, adding that such matters should be resolved "within the family". She said that she had stood by former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto "in her difficult times when she was facing a barrage of legal cases." "I, too, have the strength to go from one court to another despite suffering from cancer because, I was trained by her (Benazir)," she said. She demanded that the 'fake FIRs' be withdrawn and charges of terrorism be dropped against her husband.
