National Accountability Bureau (NAB), Karachi Bureau claimed to have recovered Rs 874.566 million during last four months. This was informed by Director General NAB Karachi Lieutenant Colonel Siraj-ul-Naeem (Retd) to chairman NAB Qamar Zaman Chaudhry during his visit to NAB Karachi Bureau here on Thursday.
DG NAB while briefing on the current status of various cases, investigations, inquiries and references informed the chairman NAB that NAB Karachi had disposed off 39 Complaint Verifications (CVs), out of 60, while 21 CVs are under process. Similarly, NAB Karachi is also conducting 286 inquiries, from which 146 have been completed while rest of the others are under process. He also apprised that out of total 140 investigations, 19 were completed while 121 investigations were underway.
He also claimed that NAB Karachi had recovered Rs 874.566 million and filed 16 references during January to April 2015 period. Meanwhile, chairman NAB emphasised that the mega cases of corruption should be priority of NAB. He cited the example of Indonesia where 11 important cases in 2014 were taken up and all were concluded through conviction.
He directed the investigation officers to maintain case diary, which should be checked at least twice in a week by the case officer and once a week by the director of the wing. He stressed the need of having proper evidential proof before initiating inquiry and ordered the directors of wings and cells to ensure transparency and accuracy in every case. He further said that training workshops must be conducted on regular basis for capacity building of the officers. He also ordered to dispose off all pending cases by June 30 and lauded the efforts of prevention committee on health, education and excise & taxation. The Chairman NAB appreciated the performance of NAB Karachi and directed to arrest culprits by using all resources. He directed that all complaint verifications, inquiries and investigations should be completed transparently, in time and on the basis of evidence on merit under laid down procedures and SOPs.
