The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Thursday issued a notification for annulment of Pakistan Muslim League - Nawaz (PML-N) leader Khawaja Saad Rafiq's membership from the National Assembly (NA). The commission also denotified the membership of Mian Naseer Ahmed, Member of Provincial Assembly of Punjab from constituency PP-155 Lahore-XIX.
The ECP issued notification of annulment of former Railway Minister following the directives of an election tribunal which annulled the results of the NA-125 election and ordered a re-poll. Rafiq had been appointed MNA after winning the 2013 general elections from Lahore's NA-125 constituency. The tribunal reportedly noted that returning officer and presiding officers had not discharged their duties proficiently. The RO had compiled the results on the basis of unverified information. Rafiq deflected all charges against him on Monday saying the tribunal's decision to order re-election in NA-125 constituency was against the presiding and returning officers of the constituency.
