Cogi, a new recording app, let's users record only what's important, not everything that happens in front of them. The system works by starting so-called sessions during a conversation, meeting or interview. The app listens passively the whole time, but only starts recording when cued to do so by a tap on a smartphone screen. A similar tap will then stop recording.
The app also recognises that users might not realise something is important until a few moments into the conversation, which is why the last few seconds of what was heard are always stored whenever the record command is given.
Users can decide if this buffer time is 5, 15, 30 or 45 seconds.
Notes and photos can be added to the recording sessions. They can also be sent as MP3 files via email.
The app is available for iOS and Android, costs nothing and includes no ads. The makers earns money when customers set up accounts or pay money for transcripts of their recordings.
