President Mamnoon Hussain here on Wednesday expressed his firm determination to restore the standard of education in Karachi and said that education was on the top of his list of priorities. Addressing a function held for distribution of laptops among 33 talented students of the NED University of Engineering and Technology, he said that establishment of lasting peace, improvement of health services and welfare work were also among his priorities.
The laptops were distributed under the "Prime Minister's Youth Laptop Programme" at the NED University auditorium in collaboration with the HEC. President Mamnoon Hussain lauded the Prime Minister's Youth Laptop Programme and said laptops would encourage the students to further improve their skills and equip themselves with the modern trends in education.
He said "We want to familiarise and harmonise our students with the changes in the region." He advised the parents to introduce their children with new technologies so as to develop their capacity and skills for playing their role in the development of the country. Besides providing better education, the parents must also pay attention to better training of their children, he added.
He said women formed 50 percent of the population of the country, and they must get better education and excel in the profession of their interest and choice. He advised that only female teachers should teach at primary level as it would convince those parents to send their female children to school, who opposes co-education system. President Mamnoon Hussain said Operation Zarb-e-Azb would continue till complete elimination of terrorism.
He said many projects of oil and gas development had been launched by the present government. He said operationalisation of Gwadar Port was very good news for the country and the nation. Speaking about Pakistan-China Economic Corridor, he said that it is beneficial for Pakistan and China as well as other countries of the region. He said electricity generation projects with the help of nuclear technology would also be launched and executed in accordance with the safety measures and procedures.
Chairman Higher Education Commission of Pakistan, Dr Mukhtar Ahmed and Vice Chancellor NED Unversity Dr Muhammad Afzal Haq were also present on the occasion. Presenting the welcome address, Vice Chancellor NED University Dr Muhammad Afzal Haq expressed gratitude to President Mamnoon Hussain for gracing the ceremony with his presence as chief guest. He said unflinching support of President Mamnoon Hussain for the development of education would greatly benefit this sector in the country.
He said NED University was producing professionals, engineers, planners and architects and many of them had ventured in the other parts of the globe. The VC NED University pointed out that the varsity published three regular journals. He said NED University was striving for providing professional quality education as a service to the nation. Earlier, President Mamnoon Hussain along with the Chairman HEC Pakistan distributed the laptops among the talented students. Later, VC Chancellor NED University Dr Muhammad Afzal Haq presented the shield of the NED University to President Mamnoon Hussain.
