Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan on Thursday said that permanent peace in Karachi cannot be achieved until the police was trained on modern lines. He said this while talking to reporters outside the Supreme Court of Pakistan, where he also announced to visit the bereaved families in Karachi.
"Rangers alone are not the solution to Karachi's law and order problem. It is like using Disprin to treat cancer," he said, adding the Rangers could provide a temporary relief by conducting operations against the mafias and militants. Khan said that there was a need to improve policing in the metropolis to curb criminals and militants. "Target killers are roaming with impunity in the metropolis," he said.
The Pakistan People's Party and N-League both call one party 'terrorist' and taking action against them. When it suits them, they made alliance with it to save their seats, he said, in an apparent reference to the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM), whose party headquarters was raided by Rangers in March. "Unless we go against whoever is involved in terrorism, unless we protect witnesses and unless we implement the National Action Plan, we will keep on condoling with people," he said.
Khan was to visit the families of the victims of Safoora Chowrangi carnage but had to call off his Karachi visit as his flight was cancelled due to "bad weather." He also said that he was thankful to Allah for bringing truth before the public on alleged rigging in the 2013 general elections.
Speaking to media persons, PML-N leader Danial Aziz said that Taliban and other terrorist outfits had always claimed responsibilities for terrorist attacks across the country. "They (terrorists) take ownership of the attacks and unfortunately the PTI had been advocating of opening offices of these militants," he said. Aziz said that the PTI's dharna caused economic loss to the country and the Taliban were also doing the same to obstruct the Pak-China Economic Corridor.
"The judicial commission should give its verdict within the given timeframe of 45 days; so that the facts should be brought before the public," he said. The PML-N leaders also said that it has been a tradition since 1970 to print extra ballots in the general elections and that does not tantamount to rigging. "Extra ballot papers were also printed in the constituencies where PTI's candidates returned victorious," said Tariq Fazal Chaudhry, adding that Imran Khan should change his team who have been misleading him on the issue of extra ballot papers printing and rigging.
PML-N MNA Talal Chaudhry said that his party had submitted an application to the Commission seeking ban on media talk after the hearing of the judicial commission. "We are happy that the Commission has approved our application. We'll abide by the order and hope that Imran Khan will also do so," he said.
