After recording the statements of six witnesses on Friday, the General Election 2013 Inquiry Commission (GEIC) summoned three other witnesses for cross examination on May 18. During the hearing of May 15, counsels for Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) and Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) concluded cross examination of Managing Director (MD) Printing Corporation of Pakistan (PCP) Musa Raza Afandi, MD PCP Lahore Muhammad Rafiq and MD Pakistan Post Foundation Ijaz Ahmad Minhas.
The GEIC chairman Nasirul Mulk summoned former Provincial Election Commissioner Sindh S. M. Tariq Qadri, Managing Director of Pakistan Security Printing Corporation, Karachi, Rizwan Ahmed and Managing Director of the Printing Corporation of Pakistan Press (PCPP), Karachi Muzafrar Ali Chandio to record testimony in the matter on May18. The commission was apprised that process of printing ballot papers was carried out under the supervision of the armed forces and representatives of the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP).
PML-N's counsel Shahid Hamid admitted while submitting written reply in the matter that the process of printing and delivery of ballot papers for the polls was delayed because of obsolete printing machines, shortage of manpower and capacity issues.
The reply further disclosed that private corporations printed ballots under the supervision of the army, adding that the ECP took all major decisions in consultation with all the political parties. The PTI's counsel Abdul Hafeez Pirzada sought adjournment for some days due to his schedule to which Chief Justice Nasirul Mulk said that the Commission should preferably be concluded within 45 days. Later, hearing was adjourned till May 18.
