The Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI) has urged the government to take immediate measures to restore the supply of salt because its shortage is hitting the industrial sector hard. Lahore chamber Vice President Syed Mahmood Ghaznavi sounded a note of warning, "If the Punjab government does not restore the supply of salt, the chemical and many affiliated industries will be shut and thousands workers will lose their jobs... Licenses of explosive material producers were cancelled soon after the Peshawar school incident, resulting in halting the supply to mines and mineral organisations."
Ghaznavi also said, "The Punjab Mineral Development Corporation has also stopped the supply of salt that is the basic ingredient of the chemical industry and because of the non-supply of salt, the chemical, textile, soap and ghee industries, power plants and water treatment plants could shut down any time from now." He then urged the authorities concerned to issue a no-objection certificate (NOC) before the industrial sector suffered a loss of millions of rupees and leave thousands jobless.
