Another person died of naegleria fowleri, also called brain-eating amoeba, on Friday, raising the death toll caused by the dreadful disease to four in Sindh. Sources said that two days back a 43-year-old Sarfaraz was shifted to a private hospital of the city where his tests showed that he was afflicted with Naegleria virus. The patient, hailing from Thatta district, remained under intense care for two days and breathed his last on Friday afternoon.
With the recent death, the total number of deaths caused by naegleria fowleri virus in Sindh has reached to four. The brain-eating amoeba (a very small living creature that consists of only one cell) lives predominately in warm freshwater and enters the body through nasal cavity. Voicing concern over rising incidences of naegleria fowleri concerned citizens demanded of federal and Sindh governments to take immediate measures to stop spread of the dreadful disease.
