Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority told the Supreme Court Tuesday that it will upload on its official website the complete details of media licensees within a week in pursuance of court's directives. Pakistan Broadcasting Association (PBA) Chairman Mir Ibrahim appeared before a two-member bench of Justice Jawwad S Khawaja and Justice Azmat Saeed Sheikh.
During May last year, Ministry of Information, Broadcasting and National Heritage had constituted a committee with a mandate to remove ambiguities in code of conduct for media and devise an effective implementation mechanism with a revised composition of complaint commission. Special Assistant to the Prime Minister Irfan Siddiqui was made chairman of the committee with its members including President All Pakistan Newspapers Society (APNS), Chairman Pakistan Broadcasters Association (PBA), President Council of Pakistan Newspaper Editors (CPNE), Secretary Law, Justice and Human Rights Division and Additional Secretary Ministry of Information, Broadcasting and National Heritage.
The bench was apprised that the committee has chalked out a code of conduct and its meeting has been convened on June 4 in the Prime Minister's secretariat for deliberations over the matter. The Pemra counsel told the bench that all the data pertaining to current owners/directors of the media houses and detail of employees, titles to whom the licenses were transfers would be uploaded on the Authority website in a week. Later, the bench adjourned the hearing of case till June 16.
