The senators belonging to Pakistan People's Party (PPP) have sought cancellation of Karachi Electric's (KE's) privatisation and its control be placed under Sindh government. Parliamentary Leader of PPP in the Senate, Senator Saeed Ghani, Senator Taj Haider and Senator Ajiz Dhamra in a joint statement said recommendations made by the fact finding committee of the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA), about series of recent power breakdown in the metropolis, must be duly contemplated.
NEPRA fact finding committee in its report, they said had suggested that the KE's privatisation be revoked and the government may take over the power distribution company. Therefore, the federal government must allow the Sindh government to take the administrative control of the Karachi Electric as it was the legal and constitutional right of the provincial government," they said. The PPP senators also took exception to frequent raise in the electricity tariff for the consumers in Karachi and regretted that they were but denied of any relief.
