Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Senator Saeed Ghani has submitted an adjournment motion on Friday pertaining to disconnection of gas supply to Pakistan Steel Mills (PSM). The Senator said in his adjournment motion that gas supply to Pakistan Steel Mills has been at the lowest ebb and plan is underway to disconnect it completely on July 28.
He said that it is part of a conspiracy being hatched to sell out the PSM at throwaway price. He requested the upper house that normal business may be deferred and motion be discussed threadbare. While talking to Business Recorder, Senator Saeed Ghani said that Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) is not supplying gas with proper pressure to PSM hence many plants have been closed.
Answering to a question about the billing, he said that matter of billing between the SSGC and PSM has been settled adding that PSM will pay gas bills but would not pay extra surcharges. He claimed the main purpose of federal government is to privatize the institution and said that his party would oppose the decision of privatization tooth and nail.
He said that the Pakistan Steel People's Workers Union (CBA) staged a sit-in in front of Karachi Press Club for supply of required gas pressure. It is worth mentioning the SSGC claims that over the years the management of the PSM has not been able to fully settle their gas bills and the outstanding amount has enormously increased to Rs 35 billion.
