The Kisan Board Pakistan (KBP) is organising a three-day seminar on "prosperous farmer - prosperous Pakistan on Thursday (today), where strategy for a long march will also be finalised to press the government for acceptance of farmers' demands. KBP Information Secretary Haji Muhammad Ramzan said on Wednesday that Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Sirajul Haq, General Secretary Liaquat Baloch and Punjab Ameer Doctor Waseem would be addressed this seminar also.
He warned that the agriculture was on the brink of destruction as the recent flood had destroyed crops standing on thousands of acres of land and looting of the growers by various quarters. The KBP was demanding that the government should fix a flat rate for electricity for agriculture, fixation of support price for sugarcane at Rs 250 per maund, paddy at Rs 2500 per maund, cotton at Rs 4,000 and wheat at Rs 1,500 per maund. He said agricultural scientists and progressive farmers would teach farmers about methods to increase the productivity to materialise the dream of a prosperous Pakistan.
