The Punjab chief minister has told the administration to launch a quick survey to assess the post-flood damages. "The administration of concerned districts should immediately carry out the survey of affected houses and crops in the light of survey of losses of flood conducted during last year," Shahbaz Sharif told a gathering of the Cabinet Committee on Flood in various districts, the divisional headquarters and the Civil Secretariat via video link.
Tuesday's meeting reviewed in detail relief activities, protective measures and the post-flood situation, claiming, "The Punjab government is standing with the flood-hit people and they will not be left in the lurch in this hour of distress." He also claimed that he would never "rest till rehabilitation of flood-hit people" and that elected representatives and administrative officers would also serve them. He then demanded the sufficient provisions, such as vaccination and animal food, and more tents for the heavily-flood-hit Esa Khel in Mianwali.
The director general of the Punjab Disaster Management Authority later gave a briefing on the water situation in rivers and relief activities while his Meteorological Department counterpart talked about the upcoming weather condition. Those also taking part in the Civil Secretariat meeting were Provincial Ministers Rana Sanaullah, Shuja Khanzada, Doctor Farrukh Javed, Bilal Yasin, Chaudhry Sher Ali, Yawar Zaman, Malik Iqbal Channar, Member of Punjab Assembly Zaeem Hussain Qadri, Chief Secretary Khizar Hayat Gondal, secretaries, heads of the Rescue Departments and senior officials, commissioners of concerned divisions.
