Khyber Pakhtunkhwa was Tuesday told that the provincial government is diverting maximum funds for the rehabilitation of the flood affected districts and in case of the shortage of resources is even ready for the suspension of annual development program (ADP) to spare it for the purpose.
This assurance was given to the members of the provincial assembly by two ministers of the coalition government in the province. First similar assurance was given by the Minister for Public Health Engineering (PHE), Shah Farman and Second assurance by Senior Minister for Local Government and Rural Development (LG&RD), Inayatullah Khan. The former is representing PTI while the later is the nominee of the coalition partner, Jamaat-e-Islami (JI).
In his winding up speech on losses from recent rains and flood in different districts of the province, the Senior Minister said that losses of Rs 4 billion have been estimated only in district Chitral while assessment in other districts of the province were in progress. He said that the provincial government had established disaster management centre at each district level and had made all the line departments subservient to Deputy Commissioners (DCs). He said that all DCs in the province have been issued an amount of Rs 382 million as emergency funds.
The senior minister said that so far an amount of Rs 1 billion had already been released to Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA). He said that all departments are active are present and active in the worst affected district Chitral. He said that initially an amount of Rs 140 million was also announced for the district.
He said that Chief Minister Pervez Khattak remained in the flood affected areas for several days and had visited various valleys of the district. He said that the amount of Rs 500 million announced by the Prime Minister during his visit to Chitral have been received by the provincial government.
Giving statistics of human casualties and losses of public properties, the seminar minister said that 80 have been killed, 58 injured and 8 other were missing due to flood and rains in the province while a total of 2682 houses were partially and 398 houses were fully destroyed in province. Similarly, he said that 328 cattle have also been killed in the natural disaster. He said that after Chitral, district Lakki Marwat is also included in the list of worst affected districts. About demands for the payment of compensation to the flood affected people, he said that Rs 0.3 million will be paid to the family of died person while Rs 0.1 million to each injured person. Similarly, a compensation of Rs 50000/- will be paid for fully destroyed and Rs 25000 to the owners of partially destroyed houses.
He said that concerned departments have been directed to keeping close contact with the members which had pinpointed problems in their respectively constituencies. He went on to say that in case of the shortage of funds, the provincial government will even not hesitate from suspending its annual development program (ADP) to divert all resources for the rehabilitation of the flood and rain affected people in the province. Earlier, legislators from opposition and treasury benches including Opposition Leader, Maulana Lutf-ur-Rehman, Sardar Hussain Babak (ANP), Aurangzeb Nalotah (PML-N), Samiullah Alizai, Syed Mohammad Ali Shah Bacha (PPP), Arshad Umerzai (QWP), Manawar Khan (JUI-F), Syed Jaffar Shah (ANP), Saleh Mohammad (PML-N), Mahmood Khan Bhatni (JUI-F), Bakht Baidar (QWP), Amna Sardar (PML-N), Shiraz Mehmood (PML-N) and Maulana Fazal Ghafoor in their speeches highlighted losses from flood and rains in their respective constituencies and demanded proper planning to in future minimise losses from natural disasters.
